Shit culminated in a gnar fever the other night, I was boiling hot to the touch but freezing my ass off. I hate that kind of sick. Of course, I hate being sick because it hinders me from doing all of the destructive things I LOVE doing...oh boy.

Pilly and I have successfully managed to obtain an apartment. It's part of a triplex, but two stories. It's ridiculously cute, I can't wait to move in and start decorating.
In just five days, I will be once again reunited with my love: my baby grand piano.

The Pocono Mountains are really beautiful, unless you're going up or down the mountains and your ears start popping. My aunt and uncle own a house in Albrightsville, at the top of Mt. Pocahontas. It's so beautiful and there's only one other house in the area. People there say very interesting things about mountain life there; for example (about those who aren't natives): "Just cause you put a kitten in an oven doesn't make it a muffin."

Jim Thorpe (or Mauch Chuk) is a picturesque little town carved right into the mountain. There are tons of cute shops and giant churches, including a humongous Episcopalian church literally carved into the mountain. We went to the Asa Packer museum (he was a senator and ran for president against Ulysses S. Grant), which was absolutely unbelievable. The Packers had an orchestrium, of which there are only two remaining in the US (the other is at the Smithsonian). The orchestrium at the Packer mansion is the only working one, and once you hear it play you can't help but laugh - it sounds like a circus carnival. They also had a Steinway concert grand piano that Mary Packer-Cummings had purchased for just $1,600 (wish my great-grandparents could've done that). When the museum first opened, you used to be allowed to play it - my cousin has - but they wouldn't let me, unfortunately. It was such a beautiful piano though.

We also went to the old jail at the top of the hill, which is said to be haunted by the ghosts of four Molly Maguires (WIKI, it's too much to explain). I do believe it because of three things - first, when we went into the terrible, dark solitary confinement area, I distinctly heard a voice say, "watch yourself," which could NOT have been possible as it was a female voice and I was with my cousin Matthew, and I also asked if there were any recordings (there aren't). Second, when I looked into the small library (which is kept roped off because people kept inexplicably getting hurt in there), it felt incredibly chilly and I got an intensely uneasy feeling (and pressure) in my chest. Third, the handprint. One of the Molly Maguires, before he was hung (all four were hung together, with nooses tied incorrectly so that they'd suffocate rather than die from snapped necks), stuck his hand in the dirt and put it on the wall, saying that it'd stay there forever to prove his innocence. Several wardens of the jail have tried to remove it - one even dug three feet around the concrete and filled it in, only to have the handprint reappear. Scientists from the Smithsonian have tested the handprint to see what sort of chemicals or organic materials could be causing it to stay, but found absolutely nothing. Not a single thing, not even dirt. Just the paint on the wall. It was there, plain as day.

Pretty creepy. Then I found out that I toured the jail on the anniversary of the hanging of four (maybe innocent, maybe not) Molly Maguires - they were hung on June 21, 1877. I was, to say the least, FUCKING CREEPED OUT.

All in all, though, the mountains were amazing.

I can't even express how happy I am right now, and I feel like a huge weight has finally been lifted off of my shoulders.

Unfortunately this means I will be returning to Tampa on June 27th, and I'm already feeling homesick for Philadelphia.
